how things are unmade (2020) for two overdubbed players

how things are unmade (HTAU) is the third installation in the sonic cartography project made for two overdubbing performers.

unlike the first two installations, cloning a mountain and sonic cartography, HTAU is broken up into two sections - first the performers choose two of the individual parts to record ahead of the performance. the performers then perform the other two parts live using their pre-recorded parts as a fixed media track.

HTAU like the other installations in sonic cartography has a video component with movement provided by Christopher J. Staley.

It was written for the 2020 Charlotte New Music Festival and was premiered by Hypercube’s Andrea Lodge and Jay Sorce on November 13th, 2020.
