dialogue for three bastards (2013) for Bb clarinet, oboe, and tenor sax

The "Dialogue" simply put is three instruments (or characters) arguing with one another. The music is derived from one of two ideas: either materials composed by myself, or a quotation that is used to support a certain instrument's "argument." The quotations are:

- P. I. Tchaikovsky Symphony No.5 3rd movement
- Johann Strauss "Unter Donner und Blitz"
- Camille Saint-Saëns "Bacchanale" from "Samson et Dalila"
- Gustav Holst Second Suite, IV. "Fantasia on the Dargason"
- Franz Schubert "Marche Militaire" D. 733
- Frédéric Chopin "Grand Walz Brilliante" Op.18
- Henry Purcell - March from "Music for the Funeral of Queen Mary" Z.860 - John Philip Sousa - "The Stars and Stripes Forever"
- W. A. Mozart - "Nozze di Figaro" Overture
- "Dies Irae"

The piece ultimately ends with three "Bastards" agreeing to disagree. It is 5 to 6 minutes long.

It was commissioned by Soundscape Festival 2013 and was premiered by Katherine Woolsey, Yi-Wen Chen (clarinet) and Tim Ruedeman (sax) on July 12, 2013 at Auditorium Città di Maccagno, Italy.
