When a melody is performed backwards, does it continue to be backwards? Does new meaning emerge when you superimpose the backwards on top of the forwards? Braids, for piri and shakuhachi is a palindromic duo comprised of two solo lines that are then performed simultaneously. Just as silk twists into fibre, individual melodies are identified by their interwoven overtones.
